The Secret of Getting Rich (Volume 1 Summary)

Book Review (Volume 1)

Title: The Secret of Getting Rich

Author: William D. Wattles

Preface:

William D. Wattles believes that the principles in this book if thoroughly followed would

guarantee 100% possibilities of bringing you riches. The plan of action laid down in this book is an exact science and failure is impossible. It’s been thoroughly tested and bears the supreme test of practical experiment; it works.

Chapter One:

Whatever has been said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it’s not possible to live a really successful life unless one is rich.

Society is so organized that one must have money to become possessor of things.

Man’s right to life means his right to have the free access to all things that maybe his mental, spiritual and physical needs.

No man should be satisfied with little if he is capable of enjoying more.

To be content with less is a sin. Every person naturally want to become all that they are capable of becoming. You can become all you want to be by making use of things. And you can make use of things only when you are rich enough to buy them.

To understand the science of getting rich is the most essential of all knowledge. The man who does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal.

There are three motives for which we live:

i.    We live for the body

ii.  We live for the mind

iii.  We live for the soul.

None of the motivation is better than the other, and none can be expressed in full capacity when the other is cut short.

Desire is possibility seeking expression. Man cannot live fully without satisfaction in the three motives for which we mentioned above.

The man who has nothing to give cannot fill his place as a husband or father, as a citizen or as a man. It is the use of material things that man finds full life for his body, develops his mind and unfolds his soul. It is therefore of supreme impotence to him that he should be rich.

It is therefore important that you should give yourself to the science of getting rich for it is the noblest and the most necessary of all studies. If you neglect this duty you are defaulting in your duty to yourself, to God and to humanity. For you can render to God or humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself.

Chapter Two:

There is a science of getting rich, it’s like algebraic or arithmetic. There are certain laws that governs the acquiring of riches. If these laws are obeyed by man he will get rich by arithmetical certainty.

The ownership of money and property come by reason of doing things in a certain way. Those who do things in this certain way, whether by purpose or accidentally gets rich. But those who do not do things in this certain way, no matter how hard they work they remain poor.

Getting rich is not a matter of environment, because in every neighborhood we see both rich and poor living side by side; at time even in the same vocation.

Getting rich is a result of doing things in a certain way, and this is not due to talents. Many people who have great talents remain poor while others who have little talent get rich.

People who get rich doesn’t become so because they possess talent or ability that other people doesn’t, but because they do things in a certain way.

The man or woman who have sense enough to read and understand these words can certainly get rich. If anybody else in your town can get rich so can you.

Again it’s not a matter of choosing some business or profession. People get rich in every business and every profession.

It’s true that you will do best in the business or vocation which you like or you are talented in and also in a business that suits a particular locality.

“Like cause produce like effect”

We will proceed to chapter three – volume 2 in our next post
